PHOTOGRAPHER & VISUAL ARTIST
Lucilla Bellini was born in Florence, Italy, in 1979.
Having grown up into a city full of art, her visual aesthetics was educated to see beauty since the beginning. Throughout her life and her classical studies, Lucilla has always been fascinated by the contemplation of beauty in all its facets.
Naturally, she was drawn to Visual Art. The interest was cultivated during her teenage years while she spent a lot of time drawing and further developed when she opted to take the International School of Comics, Academy of Visual Art and New Media in Florence while she was also studying her Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Anthropology.
With the Erasmus university program, she studied in Paris, history of cinema and directing, and began to be interested in photography using her father’s old camera.
After completing her degree, Lucilla delved even more into Visual Art when she started working with an audiovisual productions studio, specializing in visual editing. Since the first steps in photography she was always been attracted to portraiture and fashion, diving her subjects in a melancholic and cinematic atmosphere.
Her way of photographing becomes poetic, capturing beauty through various elements from the past such as the use of vintage clothes, abandoned or destroyed locations, taking inspiration from pictorial and romantic images, looking for alienating and unusual elements. The fascinating element of the time passed and the purpose to freeze an instant of beauty becomes one of her main themes.
Since 2008 she has been working as a professional photographer and co-founding FrenchFries creative communication studio.
In 2015 she moved to Tenerife, Canary Islands, driven by the need to be more in touch with nature. Her artistic production changes by integrating, even more, the natural element, as a symbol of pure beauty. Her photos are taken exclusively with natural light and the interaction of the subject with the environment is essential to achieve that moment of grace where nature and human beings utopianly balance each other.
The interest in the image of the woman and the idea of creating new tactile poetic worlds lead her to create artworks of mixed media collages where imaginative female figures are created through various layers of paper and painting, giving life to a parallel universe of ethereal apparitions. Some of her collages are included in the book “Making the Cut Vol.1 The world’s best collage artists” published in 2017 by BookBaby in Melbourne, Australia.
In 2017 she created the artistic project “Rethink your garbage” with Magali Brincat, driven by the consciousness for the environment she wants to raise awareness about the theme of plastic pollution through art and concrete actions.
In 2019 she participates with her poetic portraits in the two editions of “ImageNation” in Paris curated by Laura Tota, in the collective exhibition “Ethereal: A daily Poetry” and “Paris Photo Off” during Paris Photo.
As a Fashion photographer, she works for Ethical Slow-Fashion brands.
